This is a great way to start a day: your nearly 8-year old daughter delivers you the news that the world is going to end 2020 because of the climate change.
The subject of climate change has been discussed at her school. I think I should really have a word with her teacher. I would love to see his supporting evidence to the case that totally sinks us all in 12 years time.
I have to say that I can not blame my daughter for ruining my day. She finds it extremely unfair that she "has to die when she is only 20-years old".
I was curious to find some supporting evidence myself and did some digging. British newspaper, The Observer already revealed the Pentagon's world ending reportfour years ago . It warned that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.
Good news! It is not end of the world then - if the Pentagon says so. We might have some little hiccups with people fighting for dry land and food, but that is nothing! We Finns have shown in the past that we are able and willing to fight.
US based Bible organization, Bible Plus ( http://bibleplus.org/12signs.htm ) has a list of 12 signs of the end of the world. One of them is the "accelerating pace of moral decline". This means "escaping from reality and into thrill seeking; feelings of helplessness and powerlessness; prevalent sense of promiscuity; self-loathing and guilt. Yes, I think we are getting there.
Another one is the "coming financial collapse in countries around the world and in the USA will be devastating and create a demand for governmental intervention at the cost of liberties". Yes, I can see that happening too.
I am not so sure about the other10 items on their list though.
So based on these reliable sources I am sure that I can now convince my daughter, that we are not quite yet there and according to the always trustworthy Pentagon, we are not getting there - to the end of the world- in 2020 either.
So it's not the end of the world and I feel fine! I'll be happy to deliver the good news to my daughter at the dinner table tonight.
PS. I have finished ALL THE COURSEWORK and hope I won't to do any of it ever again. Or at least not before the WORLD COMES TO AN END.
